The world has enjoyed truly unprecedented peace and prosperity for most of the last century. Since the end of WWII, a stable rules-based order has come to define our global geopolitical landscape and produce fewer wars than at almost any other point in history. Now, for posterity’s sake, we don’t want to make it sound like everything’s been sunshine and rainbows, but it’s fair to say that from the perspective of global conflict, things have been better than they had been in the past. Now, things are changing, as war continues to break out across different theaters, and greater military threats loom large on almost every continent. While some of these conflicts lie in regrettably familiar territory like in the deserts of the Middle East, others exist along the coasts of today’s modern empires, including in both Asia and Europe. So, what do we do? Well, like the great Teddy Roosevelt famously said, “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.”
